Zac Brown Band Bio
Zachry Alexander Brown was born on July 31, 1978, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up near Lake Lanier. He was raised by his mother, Bettye, and his stepfather, Dr. Jody Moses, a dentist. He is the eleventh of twelve children in his family. Brown’s musical journey began early: he received his mother’s guitar at the age of eight and received two years of classical guitar lessons. However, he soon developed a deeper affinity for bluegrass music, which he enjoyed playing with his father and brother during weekend visits. He received vocal coaching from a church coach in his mid-teens. After attending high schools in Cumming and Dahlonega, Georgia, Brown went on to the University of West Georgia. Inspired by singer-songwriters like James Taylor, he began performing solo gigs at local venues while still in high school, eventually arranging songs with a full band while in college. In 2002, Brown established an intense touring schedule, playing an average of 200 shows per year. He demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit by co-founding a Southern-style restaurant and music venue with his father called Zac's Place. He used the proceeds from the sale of the restaurant to finance his first tour bus and his early independent recordings on his own label, Home Grown (later Southern Ground). Beyond music, Brown is known for his passion for cooking and for founding Camp Southern Ground, a non-profit camp for children.

Zac Brown Band (ZBB), led by frontman Zac Brown, is one of modern country music's most popular and long-lived touring acts, known for blending country, Southern rock, jam band, and bluegrass influences. Their career truly took off with the 2008 major-label debut album, The Foundation, which delivered their breakout hit, the 9x platinum single "Chicken Fried." This success was followed by numerous chart-topping singles like "Toes," "Colder Weather," and the Jimmy Buffett collaboration "Knee Deep," establishing them as a versatile genre-defying force. They've earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist in 2010. ZBB has been famous for its dedication to the road since its formation in 2002, consistently touring heavily, sometimes performing around 200 dates a year in their early days on their first tour bus, "Oprah." Their live shows are legendary for their length, instrumental complexity, and frequent cover songs, showcasing the band's strong musicianship. The band has launched numerous highly successful North American tours, including the Great American Road Trip Tour and the recent Out In The Middle Tour. They hold the record for the most consecutive sold-out shows at Fenway Park in Boston, highlighting their strong draw in arena and stadium venues. In a recent, ambitious move, the band announced the "Love & Fear" Residency at the Las Vegas Sphere for late 2025 and early 2026, tying in with their album Love & Fear.
