CASA of the Northern Hills

The Northern Hills Area CASA Program seeks to promote and protect the best interests of abused and neglected children involved in court proceedings through the advocacy efforts of trained volunteers.

Northern Hills Area CASA is a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, making sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social services system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Through the efforts of community volunteers and community support, the Northern Hills Area CASA program provides children with a voice in their own future. CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) spend time with the children; communicate with foster parents, teachers, caregivers, parents, and medical professionals to learn the needs and wishes of the children; and provide a report to the court detailing their findings and make recommendations.  CASAs stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe permanent home.  For many abused children, their CASA will be the one constant adult presence in their lives during this very tumultuous time. The children for whom we advocate are displaced from their homes, not because of what they have done, but because of what has been done to them by the very people who are supposed to love and care for them. We cannot change the wrong that happens in the world but we can help bring hope where there once was none. We cannot take the place of family but we can make a difference for just a day and perhaps a lifetime.
