OUR CAUSE PARTNER:
Philip’s Education Partners
Philip’s Education Partners' mission is to support the education of urban youth and to provide resources to institutions dedicated to helping urban youth to develop the intellectual competence and values necessary to live productive lives filled with
Philip’s Education Partners is a non-profit organization working to provide urban youth with the tools to lead healthy and productive lives, accomplishing this by supporting the Philip's Academy Charter network in Newark and Paterson, i2 Camp, Horizons Newark, and any other deserving programs, which benefit “the education of underserved urban children.” Philip’s shares its resources and facilities to create innovative programming, such as EcoSpaces Education, FOCUS, and Secondary School Placement.
We intend to provide direct educational services to at-risk young children at a time when those resources have proven to be most needed and effective. An overwhelming majority of these children are currently living below the poverty level without access to the educational opportunities that might serve as a launching pad to a successful life. Supporting the educational and personal growth of underserved youth and their families by developing the intellectual depth and values to lead productive lives will always be the centerpiece of our mission. Philip’s Education Partners is proud to support the following:
Philip’s Academy Charter School
100% of alumni have graduated from high school.
95% of graduates matriculate to 4-year colleges and universities.
Philip’s Academy exists to cultivate and develop every child’s innate spirit of learning through personal, customized instruction and a nurturing educational program that allows graduates to excel in selective secondary schools and in college, and accomplishes this in an environment where high expectations and moral education are integrated in all aspects of the academic program. Located in Newark and Paterson, Philip’s Academy serves a diverse group of students who come from disadvantaged communities in which more than 45% of children under age 18 fall below the federal poverty line – about $23,850 for a family of four.
EcoSpaces Education & Healthy Lunch Initiative
A multidimensional, co-curricular program, EcoSpaces is designed to give students the tools to lead healthy and environmentally productive lives in the 21st Century. The program features non-traditional learning environments that weave together a unique curriculum. Lunch is created by a culinary team who follow a strict set of guidelines to bring children healthy meals that include seed-to-table vegetables that are cooked on-site, from scratch with unprocessed ingredients and served family-style. We are exploring ways to share our curriculum and model with other schools and educational institutions.
i2 Camp
In partnership with some of the world’s leading STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) organizations, i2 Camp broadens a child’s exposure to STEM through a wide variety of new, innovative courses not seen in traditional middle school education. The fun, intimate, hands-on activities strive to excite and inspire campers about STEM and their schoolwork. The camp attracts students from local Newark and suburban schools where many of the students attend on scholarship.
Horizons Newark
Horizons Newark is a tuition-free academic enrichment program that seeks to address the achievement and opportunity gap for public school students from low income families. Many of the students accepted into the program are at or below grade level upon entering and research has shown an average increase of two months in academic skills, especially reading. Philip’s Education Partners hosts the program at 342 Central Avenue.
Secondary School Placement
Philip's is committed to supporting Philip’s Academy graduates after they leave 8th grade. In 2015, 8th graders were awarded more than $650,000 in financial aid and scholarships to elite secondary schools. Philip's fundraises to help parents meet the full tuition beyond the financial aid offered by the schools. The organization also sponsors visits to boarding schools and an annual placement fair.
Growth & Expansion
In addition to supporting the programs and services that support Philip’s Academy, we seek to complete the planning and new school startup process for expansion of high quality educational programs in Newark and Paterson. Activities will include completing NJ State compliance requirements, outreach and marketing, enrollment, selecting and implementing curriculum, site selection, school leader development and new teacher hiring.
