Heart of the Valley’s goals are twofold. First, we seek to help seniors “age in place” in their own homes and live as independently as possible, reducing the financial burden on taxpayers and families and improving the seniors’ quality of life. We also seek to connect neighbor to neighbor, creating a truly grassroots effort to help seniors and, in a world where neighbors often don’t know each other well, create a cohesive community in which people of all ages feel useful, appreciated, and supported. Last year, we harnessed the power of 200 volunteers to serve about 500 clients.

While Silicon Valley has experienced an economic boom in recent years, many seniors have been left behind as costs of living increase while Social Security payments remain stagnant. Almost 80% of our clients live at or below the poverty line. Additionally, 50% have no family to assist them. Thus, our services are a lifeline for seniors to remain at home and improve their quality of life.
