A Safe Place is the leading advocate for eliminating domestic violence & human trafficking in northern Illinois.

Who We Are A Safe Place is the only nonprofit in Lake County, Illinois, solely focused on supporting survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. We provide comprehensive, trauma-informed services that help individuals heal, rebuild, and reclaim their lives. What We Do We offer a full continuum of care — from emergency shelter and legal advocacy to long-term housing and counseling. Our programs also include abuser intervention services aimed at stopping the cycle of violence, and community education initiatives that empower people to recognize and respond to abuse. Our lifesaving Programs and services CRISIS LINE Available 24/7: (847) 249-4450 Toll Free: 1-800-600-SAFE (7233) EMERGENCY SHELTER A 33-bed shelter with food, clothing, support, and case management for families to begin a new chapter in their lives free from abuse. INTERVENTION PROGRAM Evaluating and providing group education for perpetrators of abuse to help them take responsibility for their actions and work toward rebuilding their lives. HOUSING Permanent, transitional, and scattered housing options are available for survivors, offering on-site counseling, advocacy, and life skills education to empower them to live independent, abuse-free lives. INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING Counseling services are available for individuals and groups in both English and Spanish, throughout Lake County, including Gurnee, Lake Forest, and Lake Zurich. FAMILY VISITATION CENTER Provides court-ordered supervised visitations and monitored custody exchanges in a safe environment for families of domestic violence to rebuild relationships. COURTHOUSE ADVOCACY Located at the 19th Circuit Courthouse in Waukegan, we provide victims with assistance in filing orders of protection and offer support as they navigate the court process. COMMUNITY EDUCATION Tailored programs are available for professionals, civic organizations, faith-based groups, businesses, corporations, and other communities to address and prevent domestic violence and human trafficking. PREVENTION EDUCATION We offer healthy dating prevention education in schools to teach youth and teens about the warning signs of abusive relationships and the dynamics of the cycle of violence.
