The university completed construction of Canvas Stadium, a new on-campus facility, in 2017. The first game at Canvas Stadium (then named Colorado State Stadium for only the 2017 season) was played on August 26, 2017, when the Rams defeated the Oregon State Beavers 58-27. The Rams have long-standing rivalries with Colorado, Wyoming, and Air Force. In August 2020, the university suspended the football program indefinitely and initiated investigations into accusations of racism and verbal abuse of players by the coachng staff.
