Mary Amons, a mother of five and the oldest of seven children, has a heartfelt passion for making a difference in the lives of women and children in need. She also strives to influence her own children to be charitable leaders in their community and continue the family legacy of serving others through her philanthropic efforts with Labels for Love.
Mary is the granddaughter of legendary entertainer Arthur Godfrey and also is pursuing a career in acting, films and commercial voiceovers. She studied at the Studio Theatre conservatory program in Washington, DC and is currently working on a documentary film production based on the career of her grandfather and his role as a prominent pioneer of radio and television.
In addition to Labels for Love, Mary is the co-founder of the District Sample Sale, a bi-annual shopping event in Washington, DC which raises funds and awareness for women’s and children’s organizations locally. Since its inception in 2006, the event has contributed over $200,000 to its chosen causes and continues to support each cause as “Legacy Charities.”
This second-generation Washingtonian has an extensive network of friends and associates in the capital region’s fashion, art, philanthropic, business and political arenas. A former handbag and accessories designer, she also has served as the Executive Director of the Vincent T. Lombardi Foundation, established to benefit the Vincent T. Lombardi Cancer Research Center at Georgetown University, and established by her father, Robert L. Schmidt. The foundation has raised over $5 million for cancer research since its founding in 1971.
