WHF was founded in 2005 following visits that began in 2004 to military medical centers to honor those men and women who have served and sacrificed dearly in their military service to our Country. These visits to military medical centers have continued each year and enable WHF volunteers to connect with and give support to both active military and retired service men and women. WHF has been able to conduct grant programs for emergency assistance, provide mentoring functions for transitioning careers from military service to civilian work environments, connect military service disabled veterans to a variety of programs to assist in their rehabilitation and recovery, as well as other support efforts. WHF has partnered with Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago to create an Adapative Sports Camp program for military service disabled men and women. The 5th annual RIC-WHF Paralympics Sports Camp will be conducted this coming August at venues around Chicago and attended by military service disabled men and women from around the country who are selected to participant in the week long introductory sports camp program. In February 2012 the "inaugural" Winter Military Adaptive Sports Camp will be conducted as a logical extension of the Summer Paralympics Sports Camp success of the past few years. WHF will be conducting its 7th Annual Wounded Heroes Ride in May 2012 to visit the wounded soldiers recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Monthly Heroes Dinners are conducted in and around Chicago with veterans and WHF volunteers and supporters. All are invited to join in these events a they are announced on our WHF website, through WHF Group on LinkedIn and on Facebook and Twitter.
