Association House of Chicago

Location(s):
1116 N Kedzie Ave
Chicago, IL 60651

For more than 110 years, Association House has worked with Chicagoans who seek tools to lead more productive lives. This non-profit organization is one of the oldest "settlement houses" in Chicago originally designed to provide relief and guidance to new immigrants. Today, Association House is based in Humboldt Park and reaches a multicultural, mostly Latino and African-American, population of all ages across the city. Association House helps more than 20,000 participants each year through programs across five service areas: community services, from basic needs to job training; child welfare; behavioral health; out-of-school programs for children and teens; and El Cuarto Año, an alternative high school.

These programs address immediate needs such as emergency food provisions, foster care and adoption, and substance abuse counseling and prevention. In addition, motivated participants achieve life-long personal goals by enrolling in Association House's citizenship instruction, literacy, technology and job training, and development programs for children, teens and seniors.

All programming is offered in both English and Spanish. Each of Association House's many programs are evidence-based and regularly evaluated to ensure efficacy and community relevance. In 2009, Association House received United Way's Outstanding Partner of the Year award for offering a cohesive safety net to Chicagoans in need.
